Born in St. Kilda, Australia, Gerald O'Collins was a graduate of the University of Melbourne, received his PhD at Cambridge University in 1968, and taught theology for 33 years at the Gregorian University (Rome), where he is now professor emeritus.
Gerald O'Collins, S.J., is a distinguished biblical scholar and systematic theologian and well known as a speaker and lecturer around the world, he has published hundreds of articles and 54 books.
In 2006 he was created a Companion of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AC).
